Andrew Bird's barn is so far from the river and towns that he can't get radio reception here. He doesn't even have coyotes for company since he got rid of his chickens.
It's the perfect isolation in which to nurture a unique musical vision. The whistle - something his grandma taught him as a kid, and which winds a curious, melancholy thread through his records - is the perfect motif for a solitary man communing with his muse.
