3; $10 Raffle Entry Enter to win, affect change... This is a raffle ticket to raise money for our friend Akio and his community to rebuild after the earthquake in Japan. Heath will match the total money raised by the raffle. Akio is an inspirational Japanese potter and a friend of Heath's. He was on his way to the opening of his show at Heath LA when the devastating earthquake hit (he and his family may still be here, they really want to try and make it!).

Heath glass....
coming soon.....

Having been a glassblower in my 20's, I still have a huge appreciation for hand blown glass. There is simply nothing better than hand blown glass in my opinion. A friend, who knows I used to blow glass, sent this to me today via the HEATH blog. I'm thrilled that Heath is slowly expanding into other realms of craft, and can't wait to see these glasses in person. I wonder what's next?

Heath LA will feature an eclectic array of Playmountain products including its newest line, Chin Jukan Pottery, a collaboration between Nakahara and Korean potter/designer Hyejeong Kim inspired by and fired in a historic 400-year-old Japanese kiln with origins in Korean craftsmanship. The result is four series of modern yet modest, highly-designed yet functional ceramics from tableware to home accessories. The summer shop will also incorporate original, handmade children’s toys from Nakahara’s children’s line, Chigo; clothing by Playmountain’s neighbor, Loopwheeler, a small Japanese manufacturer that uses vintage loopwheel looms, which date back to early 1920s Germany, and which, because of the slow, quality-first approach, only process eight sweatshirts a day; and products by TEMBEA, a manufacturer known for its high-quality fabric bags durable enough to tote and bundle firewood but stylish enough for daily use. Plus, new products will be arriving throughout the 90-day event.

Los angeles // alma allen show at heath November 5th from 5-8pm -
the Alma Allen show at Heath LA. An exhibition of sculpture, salvaged wood furniture and hand turned wooden bowls, along with exclusive pieces from a collaboration between Alma Allen, Commune Design and Heath Ceramics. Alma works primarily with found and salvaged raw materials like wood and stone to create beautiful and often profound sculptures (which maintain a sense of humor) and furniture. Alma's show runs until January 4. All art work will be available for sale. Prices range from $200 upwards. Please RSVPto the opening reception here. We look forward to introducing you to Alma's amazing work...... Born in Heber City, Utah, Indian petroglyph drawings fascinated artist Alma Allen at an early age. Such ancestral influences infuse his work and inform his visual design language. Before settling in California in 2000, Alma lived in New York where his work was collected and exhibited by art & design luminaries. In Los Angeles Allen reunited with his childhood sweetheart Nancy Pearce, where together they opened “Pearce”, a store on Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice, California and Alma’s work continued to be a favorite of important artists, architects and designers as well as a selection for major personal art collections. They later built their home and studio in the Joshua Tree desert, allowing Allen to work on larger scale projects, set up a bronze foundry, and be closer to many of the raw materials that he uses for his work. His pieces range from small enough to hold in the palm of your hand, to large enough to feed your family at. This will be Alma Allen’s first one-man show in Los Angeles in four years, and represents a rare opportunity to see a very large group of his work at one time, which will be updated with new works by the artist throughout the course of the show.
